What is it?
L-Carnitine is considered by some to be a semi-essential amino acid. “Essential” amino acids, the building blocks of proteins in the body, must be obtained from the diet because the body can not make them. Our bodies can make carnitine from the essential amino acid lysine but this process can be limited in some people. L-Carnitine can be obtained directly from foods, notably red meat. L-Carnitine has beneficial research in cardiovascular disease like congestive heart failure, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and insulin resistance/type II diabetes.
What does it do?
L-Carnitine’s primary mechanism of action is to improve the delivery of free fatty acids into the mitochondria to be used as fuel. It is also used in the process of creating energy from ketones as well as from the branched chain amino acids. It helps improve the generation of energy from fat.

L-Carnitine can help to improve the process of creating energy in the mitochondria from fat. It is also believed to improve the capacity of using stored fat as energy.
