I recommend Cod Liver Oil (CLO) to most of my patients. Omega 3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA) are incredibly bene-ficial and necessary for the healing of all cells and thus all processes in the body. CLO heals the cells that have been damaged by excess stress hormones over time. We are all deficient in Omega 3s. Research on Omega 3s shows benefit in the treatment of fatigue, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, immune weakness, and more.

Fish oils like CLO have far more omega 3s than flaxseed oil. CLO also contains Vitamins A and D, which fish oils lack. Interestingly ours is also combined with Butter Oil, which supplies the Vitamin K. These fat-soluble vitamins are crucial to your healing process. Green Pasture Royal Cod Liver Oil is the only brand of CLO that I recommend based on quality and natural processing.

Dr. Weston Price discovered High-Vitamin Butter Oil back in the 1930s, but the pinnacle of his discovery was when he combined Cod Liver Oil with High-Vitamin Butter Oil. Today, Green Pasture Products produce the High-Vitamin Butter Oil, and they ferment the historically sacred cod and skate liver oils.

Fermenting the livers of fish to extract the oil is an old-world practice. The 1850s saw the beginning of the industrial food revolution, and the first time cod liver oil manufacturing changed from its sacred historical roots to an industri-alized food. Green Pasture has turned back the clock and restored these sacred foods to their roots, offering these historical sacred foods prepared with the same great care.

Dr. Price traveled the world, studying the traditional diets of many cultures. Within every culture, he discovered sa-cred foods that were carefully collected and prepared to ensure the strong mind, body, and spirit of its people. Cod Liver Oil is one of those foods.

Why each bottle may taste, smell, or look different than the next? Any particular jar of Royal CLO might have one flavor and consistency, and another jar will have another flavor or consistency. Sometimes you may not like the odor of a particular jar, and you think, “Oh, this must be bad.” That is not the case.

Varying odors: We have investigated many of the variances and concluded that most differences are strictly related to the diet of the fish. The different odors are predominantly variances in tyramine. This amine is related to the diet of the fish and is the same amine that gives stinky cheese its unique qualities!

Crystals: Some lots of Royal CLO develop fat crystals. These have been identified as phytosterols and are a result of phytoplankton in the fish diet. The crystal formations can be controlled through the rate of cooling of the product. If you have a bottle with the crystals, you may warm the jar in a bowl of warm water, and, after the product clears of crystals, quickly cool the jar in the fridge or freezer (the rapid cooling prevents the crystals from having time to form). Note, however, that the crystals are fat/sterols and are healthful rather than harmful; if you don't mind the crystals, there is no reason to perform the warming and rapid cooling steps.

Consistency: The same fish diet differences hold true when some lots are more saturated or solid than others. There exist some industrial processes to remove these variances, but these processes are the very ones that will denature the natural product and nutrients.

If you are someone who struggles with textures, flavors, or odors, please consider the capsules. You may also consider using one of the tips to take CLO: mixing the Royal CLO with yogurt, pomegranate juice, tomato juice, maple syrup, or honey.
