CBD, or "cannabidiol," is an extract of the Cannabis plant found in marijuana and hemp. CBD is one specific alkaloid that has been researched to assist with the symptoms of anxiety and insomnia. It accomplishes this without having any of the psychoactive effects associated with the plant, which stem primarily from the THC alkaloid in a dose and strength-dependent manner.
What does it do?
The way CBD and THC act in the body is through the endocannabinoid system (body-wide chemicals and their receptors that have modulating effects on nerves, immunity, and hormones). This system is designed to utilize our body's own endocannabinoid chemicals. It is these very chemicals and this system that should be acting as a buffer to all "stress" in the body, but the system becomes depleted by chronic stress over time.
CBD is a safe way to support and quiet one's stress response. By assisting the endocannabinoid system to heal over time, CBD can help both symptomatically as well as in a curative fashion.
Research and my experience support the use of CBD oil in the treatment of anxiety, insomnia, and pain and inflammation. It can be used both internally and topically. CBD has become one of my “go to” remedies for anxiety, nervousness, and insomnia. It is a useful adjunct to the rest of the supports and remedies used in this program.
